Category Manager

Location: Hybrid - New York City, New York

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly strategic and results-driven Category Manager to support our category management function. This role will be responsible for developing and executing category strategies that drive growth and profitability across key retail customers. The Category Manager will work cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, and Commercial Strategy teams to deliver actionable recommendations based on data-driven analysis that would grow the category, 1440 Foods and the retailers’ businesses.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyze consumer, market, and competitive data to uncover opportunities for growth and innovation.
  • Develop and implement category management strategies to grow 1440 Foods and the retailers’ businesses.
  • Support category management initiatives across multiple retail accounts, with a focus on Costco, Walmart, Target, and Kroger.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with retail partners to influence category and merchandising decisions.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing teams to align category strategies with business objectives.
  • Utilize syndicated data sources (e.g., Nielsen, Circana) and shopper insights to develop fact-based recommendations.
  • Support category reviews and joint business planning sessions with key retail accounts.
  • Monitor industry trends and customer behaviors to anticipate shifts in the marketplace.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in category management processes, tools, and capabilities.
  • Prepare comprehensive category analyses, presentations, and strategic recommendations.
  • Assist with new item launches and promotional planning from a category perspective.
  • Support portfolio optimization initiatives while tracking category performance metrics and KPIs to influence decision making.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field; MBA a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in category management, shopper insights, or related roles within the CPG industry.
  • Proven experience working with major retailers, particularly Costco, Walmart, and Kroger.
  • Expertise in syndicated data analysis (Nielsen, Circana) and shopper analytics.
  • Space planning experience (e.g., with Blue Yonder or similar platforms).
  • Experience with retailer shopper data platforms (84.51, ABSCO 360, Scintilla, etc.).
  • Cross-channel experience (brick-and-mortar, e-commerce, club).
  • Experience working with 3rd party vendors (e.g., Kantar, Suzy, etc.)
  • Familiarity with retail merchandising and planogram development.
  • Understanding of trade promotion optimization and ROI analysis.

Salary for the Category Manager starts at $140,000.
