Director, Customer Development

Position Overview:

As the Director of Customer Development, you will lead our strategic regional grocery accounts, notably Meijer, Publix, HEB, Wakefern, and ADUSA. This role will serve as the strategic thought leader for the assigned customers, setting the strategy in conjunction with leadership, working cross-functionally within the organization, and ensuring close connectivity with our broker partners to deliver strong execution at the customer level. The position will have full ownership of the P&L, responsible for achieving the Annual Operating Plan, inclusive of Sales, Profit, ACV, and Share. Additionally, this position will serve as the lead point of contact overseeing a team of 15+ broker contacts.

Job Responsibilities:

Accelerate Grocery Channel Growth Focused on Key Regional Grocers

  • Own the strategic development of key customers within the grocery channel through thought leadership, business acumen, and understanding of retailer go-to-market strategies.
  • Facilitate the building of relationships with merchants and support staff, both vertically and horizontally, at assigned customers.
  • Develop innovation summit process with key customers to build a 1-3 year pipeline of innovation partnership.
  • Support and participate in channel trade shows, events, and conferences where applicable.

Account Management

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners such as our category management, customer service, marketing, and finance to deliver outstanding business results.
  • Build rapport with broker partners and ensure proper cadence of connectivity to effectively manage customers.
  • Implement marketing strategies, analyze trends, and negotiate promotion for Met-Rx, Pure Protein and Body Fortress.
  • Ensure timely execution of back-end support functions (trade deduction management, price discrepancies, customer payments) with the support of our broker partners.

Sales Excellence

  • Lead the comprehensive sales cycle process for assigned accounts in Grocery Channel; serving as the key point of contact for coordinating the outline and build of selling materials.
  • Leverage category/industry insights to ensure alignment to retailer strategies and drive success in close core distribution voids throughout the channel.
  • With the support of broker team, develop and execute best-in-class promotional/display strategy for specific customers to deliver topline growth while maximizing ROI.
  • Collaborate with broker partners to forecast sales volume and trade spend on a monthly basis and review/support total channel to improve forecast accuracy.
  • Manage & optimize trade spend in line with budget. Support quarterly promotion ROI analysis.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum 7-10 years Proven experience in customer development, sales, or related roles.
  • Broker management experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical mindset. Experience with market intelligence systems (IRI, Circana, PowerBI).
  • Excellent communication capabilities, ability to define and build sell-in materials.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with forecasting and trade budget management systems.
  • Results-driven mindset with a focus on meeting and exceeding sales goals.
