Production Manager

Location: Jeffersonville, IN

Position Overview:

The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the production lines in our food manufacturing plant. This role ensures the smooth and efficient production of food products while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity. The Production Manager will lead a team, ensuring all production goals are met in compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices.

Job Responsibilities:

Production Management

  • Oversee daily operations of the production floor, ensuring efficient production schedules, product quality, and cost management.
  • Coordinate with other departments (e.g., distribution, maintenance, and quality assurance) to ensure production goals are met.
  • Monitor production output and adjust schedules as needed to meet demand.
  • Optimize processes for continuous improvement in production efficiency, reducing downtime and waste.

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise and lead a team of production staff, including operators, supervisors, and other production employees.
  • Provide training and development to ensure employees are properly skilled and compliant with safety and quality standards.
  • Manage staffing levels to meet production requirements and manage labor costs efficiently.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and develop improvement plans for team members.
  • Develop talent pipeline with the production team to support business continuity.

Quality Control & Compliance

  • Ensure all products are manufactured in compliance with food safety standards, including HACCP, GMP, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with the quality assurance team to conduct regular inspections and audits of production processes.
  • Investigate any production-related issues, implement corrective actions, and ensure that products meet the highest standards of quality.
  • Coordinate with the Sanitation team to support plant and equipment sanitation requirements.

Environmental, Health & Safety

  • Enforce health and safety regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for all production staff.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, food safety standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Lead safety training sessions and respond to any safety and environmental incidents that occur.

Equipment & Maintenance

  • Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure that production equipment is well-maintained and operational.
  • Monitor equipment performance and work with engineering and maintenance staff to address any technical issues promptly.
  • Provide production expertise in capital planning and coordinate operations resources during project execution.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team on root cause analysis for major breakdowns.

Inventory & Materials Management

  • Ensure proper inventory control of raw materials, packaging, and finished goods.
  • Work with the distribution team to stage necessary materials to meet production schedules.
  • Oversee proper storage of raw materials and finished products to prevent spoilage or damage and observe allergen control requirements.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate production records, including output, downtime, quality reports, and safety incidents.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on production performance, goals, and issues to upper management.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as productivity, efficiency, scrap rates, and labor utilization.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in production planning software and MS Office applications.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Adept in critical thinking and navigating ambiguity.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
  • Certifications in Food Safety (HACCP, GMP, etc.) are a plus.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a production management role within the food manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of food production processes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement initiatives, and cost control strategies.

Work Environment:

Exposure to both the office setting and food manufacturing facility.

  • Significant amount of time working at a computer station.
  • Occasional visits to various areas of the manufacturing floor.
  • Must wear required PPE while in all manufacturing areas.
  • Moving parts and machinery are present in the plant.

Physical demands:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, or walking.
  • Occasional ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to physically perform functions of repetitive motion, grasping, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, balancing, and climbing.
  • Noise levels will vary, higher noise levels exist while in the plant operations areas.
